Water is often called the elixir of life, and for good reason. Our bodies depend on it for nearly every function, from regulating temperature to transporting nutrients and removing waste. Yet, despite its importance, many of us don’t drink enough water each day. In this blog, we will explore the significance of drinking water, the benefits of filtered water, and how much water you should be drinking based on your weight.
Importance of Drinking Water:
-
Hydration: Staying hydrated is essential for maintaining optimal bodily functions. Water helps regulate body temperature, lubricate joints, and protect sensitive tissues.
-
Nutrient Transport: Water serves as a medium for transporting nutrients throughout the body. It aids in the digestion, absorption, and distribution of essential vitamins and minerals.
-
Toxin Removal: Proper hydration supports the body’s natural detoxification processes, helping to flush out toxins and waste products through urine and sweat.
-
Cognitive Function: Dehydration can impair cognitive function, leading to decreased focus, concentration, and memory. Drinking water regularly can help keep your mind sharp and alert.
-
Energy Levels: Even mild dehydration can cause fatigue and decrease energy levels. Staying hydrated can help you feel more energized and improve overall productivity.
Importance of Filtered Water:
Tap water is truly no longer safe to drink because it contains impurities and contaminants that affect taste and quality. Filtered water provides an additional layer of purification, removing potentially harmful substances like chlorine, fluoride, pharmaceutical medications, lead, bacteria and the list goes on. Investing in a quality water filter can improve the taste and safety of your drinking water, promoting better hydration and overall health. Ask Dr. Katie on your next visit what filtration system she recommends.
How Much Water Should You Drink:
The amount of water you should drink each day depends on various factors, including your age, weight, activity level, and climate. A simple rule of thumb is to divide your body weight in pounds by 2, and that’s the number of ounces of water you should aim to drink daily. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should aim to drink at least 75 ounces of water per day. In addition, add doTERRA Lemon essential oil to help detoxify your body, usually four drops will do. If you don’t have doTERRA Lemon, reach out to Dr. Katie.
Tips for Staying Hydrated:
-
Keep a Water Bottle Handy: Carry a reusable water bottle, either glass or stainless steel with you throughout the day to remind yourself to drink water regularly.
-
Set Reminders: Use phone alarms or app notifications to remind yourself to drink water at regular intervals.
-
Drink Before Meals: Drinking a glass of water before meals can help curb appetite and prevent overeating.
-
Monitor Urine Color: Pay attention to the color of your urine. Pale yellow or clear urine is a sign of adequate hydration, while dark yellow urine may indicate dehydration.
