Xeno (foreign) Estrogen (hormone) are synthetic (man made “Estrogen Mimickers” and “Fake Estrogens”.

They trick the body into allowing the Xenoestrogen to act in place of its own estrogen. Because they are not natural to the body and arebnot biodegradable, they are stored in fat cells and can easily build up and become toxic. Under normal conditions, estrogen when balanced with other hormones are naturally moved through pathways and eliminated. Estrogen dominance (having too much estrogen not properly balanced with other hormones) is at an all time high due to constant exposure to Xenoestrogens in our environment. Consequently wreaking havoc and disrupting our Endocrine System (the system that manages your hormone levels) contributing to many health related conditions, such as:

  • Breast and Prostate cancers
  • Infertility, Miscarriage, Endometriosis
  • Early Puberty and Male sex organ development
  • Gynecomastia or “Man Boobs”
  • Obesity and Diabetes
  • Estrogen Dominance/Hormonal Imbalance symptoms

These Xenoestrogens can be easily absorbed through our skin, stomach and lungs via commonly used products, food and drinking water. The list of what to avoid is very long, however some of the most common sources are:

BPA (plastic), BHA (food preservatives), Erythrosine (food coloring), Parabens and Phthalates (personal care products, fragrances, vinyl, toys, air fresheners…), Household Cleaning Products, PCB’s (adhesives & paints), PFOA’s (non stick pan coating) Insecticides, Pesticides, Glyphosate (Roundup) Dioxins (poisonous chemical produced by any burning process industrial or natural sources – collect in air, soil, water & food chain and stay in the body a long time), Synthetic birth control/HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) … Just to name a few!

Sounds overwhelming, but there are steps you can take to protect yourself! Use products that are marked “Free of” BPA, Parabens, Phthalates, PFOA’s etc … Don’t use non stick PFOA cookware, plastic containers or water bottles – store in glass. Cook with stainless steel, cast iron or ceramic cook wear. Never microwave in styrofoam or plastic. Avoid processed and pre-packaged foods when possible.

Include some naturally detoxifying foods: Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli cauliflower, brussels sprouts,) kale, leafy greens, collard greens, cilantro, green tea, turmeric and chia seeds. Choose fresh organic fruits & veggies, natural grass fed meat, cage free poultry & eggs (with no added hormones) and wild caught seafood (not farm raised). Use filtered water whenever possible – Xenoestrogens are not added to tap water, but is a byproduct of animal & human waste.
